    • ALAIN de Bretagne [997]-poisoned Montgommery 1 Oct 1040).  A charte r dated 1026 recalls that "Gaufridus, Conani Curvi filius" was kille d "apud Concuruz prelium", stating that "quo defuncto,Alanus filius ei us… renum patris suscipiens", witnessed by "Alanus comes… Heudo frate r eius".  Guillaume de Jumiè ges names "Alain et Eudes" as the two so ns of Geoffroy and Havise.  He succeeded his father in 1008 as ALAIN I II Duke of Brittany.  The Chronicon Kemperlegiense records that "Alan us filius eius" succeeded "Gauffridus Dux Britanniæ filius Conani fil ii Iuhaë lis Berengarii" in 1008.  A charter dated 1008 records that , after the death of "Gaufrido comite Britanniæ", "filii eius Alanus e t Eudo cum matre eorum Hadeguisia" restored the abbey of St. Mé en.  " Alanus et Egio Britannorum monarchi" founded the priory of Livré "i n pago Redonensi" by charter dated to [1013/22], signed by "… Aduise m atre eorum comitum, Rivalloni vicarii, Triscanni…".  "Alanus Britannic e gentis dux atque princeps" founded the abbey of St. Georges de Renne s by charter dated to [1028/30], witnessed by"Eudo meus germanus, Gozo linus vicecomes, Rivallonis vicarius, Alanus Cornugallie comes…".  Ord eric Vitalis states that Duke Alain was "poisoned in Normandy by the N ormans".  The Chronicon Britannico records the death in 1040 of "Alanu s Comes Redonensis", another manuscript specifying that "Alanus Dux Br itanniæ" died "Kal Apr".  He married (1018) as her first husband, BERT HE de Blois, daughter of EUDES II Comte de Blois et de Chartres and hi s second wife Ermengarded'Auvergne -[11/13] Apr 1085).  Her parentag e and both her marriages arerecorded to by Orderic Vitalis.  The Chron icon Kemperlegiense records that "Alanus filius eius" succeeded "Gauff ridus Dux Britanniæ filius Conani filii Iuhaë lis Berengarii" and mar ried "Bertham filiam Odonis Comitis Carnotensis".  The Flandria Genero sa names "Berta comitissa" daughter of "altera Ermengardis comitissa" , when outlining the basis for the consanguinity between Baudouin VI I Count of Flanders and his wife Havise de Bretagne which constitute d grounds for the couple's separation.  She married secondly (after 1 4 May 1046) Hugues IV Comte du Maine -26Mar 1051).  The Actus pontifi cum Cenomannis records that Bishop Gervais arranged the marriage of "H ugonem… Herberti filium" and "Bertam… Alani Britannorum comitis olim c oniugem".  Her second marriage is confirmed by the Chronicon Ruyensi s Cœ nobii which records the death in 1062 of "Herbertus Cenomannensiu m Comes et frater uterinus Conani ducis".  "Berta comitissa Alani Redo nensis ducis uxor" donated property to Sainte-Croix de Quimperlé; fo r the souls of "filie nostre Hadeuis comitisse Hoelis ducis Britanni e conjugis et… filiorum suorum, meorum… nepotum Alani et Mathie", by c harter dated 1075, signed by "Alanus nothus filius Conani comitis… fam iliars comitisse Haduis neptis mee…".  The Chronicon Britannico recor ds the death in 1084 of "Bertha Comitissa mater Conani".  The Chronico n Britannico Alter records the death in 1085 of "Bertha religiosa Comi tissa", stating that she restored "Monasterium S. Melanii".  The necro logy of Chartres cathedral records the death "II Id Apr"of "Berta comi tissa".  The Chronicon Ruyensis Cœ nobii records the death in 1085 o f "Berthæ comitissæ".  The Chronicon Kemperlegiensis records the deat h "Kal Jun" in 1085 of "Bertha Comitissa Britanniæ; mater Conani Ducis , soror Fulconis",although no other record has been found which confir ms that Berthe had a brother named Foulques.  Mistress (1):---.  Th e name of Duke Alain's mistress is not known.
