    • Infanta doñ a BERENGUELA de Castillay Leó n (Seville [10 Oct/25 Nov] 1 253-Guadalajara, convent of Santa Clara de Toro 1300, buried Santo Dom ingo el Real de Madrid).  The Cró nica del Rey Don Alfonso X record s the birth of "la reina doñ a Violante de unafija… la infante doñ a B erenguela, que fué señ ora de Guadalfajara… en el comienzodel añ o" i n the same year as the arrival in Castile of "lafija [del] rey de Nuru ega… doñ a Cristina".  Alfonso X King of Castile "con la Reyna donn a Yolantmi mugier et con mis fijas la Inffante donna Berenguella et l a Inffante donna Beatriz" confirmed rights of the church of Valladoli d by charter dated Sep 1255.  She was recognised as her father’s succe ssor 5 May 1255, in default of male heirs, until the birth of her brot her 23 Oct 1255.  Installed as Señ ora de Guadalajara by her father.   Her betrothal is recorded by Matthew of Paris, although he does no t give her name.  She founded the convent of Santa Clara de Toro at Gu adalajara.  A nun at Las Huelgas.  Gonzá lez reproduces an epitaph a t Santo Domingo el Realde Madrid which records the burial of “la Infan ta doñ a Berenguela, hija delrey don Alonso intitulado emperador”.  B etrothed (Paris 20 Aug 1255) to LOUIS de France, eldest son of LOUIS I X King of France and his wife Marguerite de Provence (21 Sep1243 or 2 4 Feb 1244-Paris 11 Jan 1260, buried Abbaye cistercienne de Royaumont , transferred to St. Denis 1817).
