  • Notes
    • In the Canadian military as an Instrument Electrical Technician from 1957 to 1980's, retiring as a Master Corporal. He then worked as a Commissionaire at the base in Comox.

Cremated. A small memorial was built with Gail Turmaine, Danielle and her family and Renee and her family present. Some of the ashes were placed at the memorial and the remainder were placed in an urn for Gail.

At one time considered joining the seminary of the Catholic Church - at the urging of his mother. Ultimately, decided to join the Canadian Forces in 1958.
First posting in Baden Sollingen, from where he sent for and married Patricia Gail Melanson on March 8, 1958. Birth of Christine in Germany July 31, 1959.
Spent ten years as an Electrical Technician at CFB Trenton from 1960 to 1970. Renee, Andrea and Danielle were all born here. While here, he lived in various locations including Carrying Place, Brighton, the 'Evans' apartment buildings on Hwy 2 of Trenton and in the Trenton military quarters. (Twist of fate: When Mark and I moved into our PMQ on base, 23 Rivers Drive, we were only 3 doors down from the house we lived in when we were kids - 29 Rivers Drive. It seemed rather strange at times to 'be my own neighbour in time'.
Posted to Comox, British Columbia in 1970. We still laughingly tell the story of how he was so happy about the posting he danced around the living room coffee table and 'wore a hole in his sock'. Truth be told, the hole was already there, but it made for a good story. He worked on the Search and Rescue aircraft (Labradors and Buffalos) of 442 Squadron - and loved his work.
After leaving the military, he worked for several years as a Commissionaire. In the beginning, he worked at the main gate, but subsequently worked at the gate to the Quadra cadet camp at Goose Spit. He loved it there because it was right on the ocean front - and very peaceful and quiet.
He loved to camp, hunt and fish and remained living in Comox until his death. Danielle tells of how Gail made him smile on his death bed by saying that she would meet him later in heaven and take him fishing!
