Transcription: Last Will and Testament of Henry Batte, dated 1727.

In the Name of God Amen, I, Henry Batte of Prince George County of Virga, being weak in Body but of perfect sense and memory, praise be Almighty God, do Will Make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament ????? witnesses and friends followeth

Imprimes. I give and bequeath my Soul to God that gave it, and my Body to the Earth from whence it came, to be Buryed at the discretion of my Executor hereafter mentioned, in ???? and certain hope of a Joyfull Resurrection at the Last day.

Item. My Will is that my loveing Mother Mary Batte have the use of my two Negros Mo?? named Roger and Tom, dureing her naturall Life.

Also four ??? Milk Cattle, One Steer about five or six years old, and five hundred pounds of porke yearly to be found her dureing her naturall Life.

Likewise my two Horses named Patrick and Hobby, dureing her Naturall Life.

Item. I give and bequeath to my Loveing Sister Mary Poythress twenty Shillings current money.

Item. I give and bequeath to my Loveing Sister Elizabeth Liggon twenty Shillings current money.

Item. I give and bequeath to my Loveing Sister Ann Stratton twenty Shillings current money.

Item. My Will is that my Loveing Sister Rachell Parham have yearly have yearly ????? ??????? my ?? sister hereafter mentioned ???? ??? of Garlic

And all the Remaining part of my Estate in Virginia and England, ???????? ???????? able not yet disposed of, I give and bequeath to my Loveing Brother William Batte, and I do hereby Will, Make, Ordain, Constitute and Appoint my Loveing Brother William Batte my full, whole and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, he paying all my Just Debts and Legacy’s. In Witness whereof, I have hereto set my hand & Seal this twenty-fifth day of July 1727.

At a Court held at Fitzgerald for the County of Prince George, on the second Tuesday in October, being the Tenth day of the six Month, Anno Domi 1727.

The above written Last Will and Testament of Henry Batte deceased was Eshibitted into Court by William Batte his Executor, who make Oath thereto, and it being proved by the Oaths of Abraham Cocke, Samuel Jordan and John Cureton, three of the Witnesses thereto, by Order of the Court is truly Recorded and on the motion of thee sd. William Batte and his giveing Bond and Security, Certificate is granted him for Obtaining a Probate of the sd. Will in due form.
